Naperville Earns Top Honors from Money Magazine Having already been recognized as the best place to raise children and one of the best places to retire, it seemed a perfect fit that the City of Naperville be someday named the best place to live...period. That day came December 16, 2003, as city officials learned that Naperville had been ranked as the most desirable place to live in the central United States, according to Money Magazine's "Best Places to Live" list. Naperville earned top honors in the magazine's annual list among cities with populations of more than 100,000. "We are honored to be recognized by Money Magazine as the best place to live in this region of the country," said City manager Peter Burchard. "Our primary focus has always been to work hard to accomplish citywide goals and continuously improve the way we deliver services to our residents. Combine that work ethic with a strong sense of community that exists among our residents, businesses and city leadership, and the end result is that we have raised the bar and set very high standards for the quality of life our residents enjoy." Joining Naperville at the top of the 100,000-plus-population category were Plano, Texas (west region) and Cary, North Carolina (east region). The top ranked cities for populations under 100,000 were Rancho Santa Margarita, California (west region), Sugarland Run, Virginia (east region) and Woodbury, Minnesota (central region). "This recognition is built on generations of collaboration by virtually every entity within the city," Burchard added. "It recognizes the efforts of the entire city from developers to schools, to parks, to businesses and the many prior elected officials who remained committed to a set of values, and conveyed that vision to the citizens of this community." Cosmetic Improvements >A Sparkling Kitchen
There's no doubt about it--the kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the whole house for many prospective buyers. Smart sellers will take a close look at how they can make their kitchen a real asset when it is time to sell.
Your kitchen doesn't need to be state-of-the-art to be attractive. The first step toward enhancing your kitchen's appeal is a thorough cleaning. This includes the walls, cabinets (inside and out), floors, and appliances. Keep the counter tops as clear as possible of small appliances and gadgets. Consider low-cost improvements which can make a big difference, such as a coat of paint, fresh wallpaper, or new floor covering. Be sure to keep the kitchen sparkling when the house is being shown. This means no dirty dishes in the sink or moldy cucumbers in the refrigerator. This extra effort will pay great dividends!
